Project Launch
On Monday 10th June 2013 St Ives Mayor, Colin Nicholls, Deputy Mayor Tamsyn Williams and town councillor Andrew Mitchell welcomed the start of the project at St Ives Library. Project director Jo Mayes, Steve from Cornwall Rolling Ramblers - an expert in working to improve access for mobility scooter users - and Colin Sanger, a recent town councillor who currently has mobility problems, started an informal survey of the town, designed to consider the situations that people with mobility difficulties may encounter when trying to get around St Ives. The project is joined by Christine Wheeler, who is campaigning for improved access for those wheelchair users who need ramped curbs to help them get on and off pavements, and Donald McAllister representing pushchair users. Through working together is hoped that creative ways can be found in which more people will be able to enjoy the town, especially through better information and small but significant changes. Results from the research will be fed into the St Ives Community Plan. |
